Style Tips for Short Men
For a short man shopping, it can sometimes feel like the universe is conspiring against you because the average height for men that most clothes are made for is 5’10 or 5’11.
Here are a few tips that’ll make you look dapper and ensure your height isn’t the focal point at first glance.
Embrace a form fit
While you don’t necessarily have to give in to the trend of skinny fits, avoid extra fabric and go for form fitting clothes since they’ll make you look slender and tall instead of broad and short. This means that pants that bunch up over your shoes, sleeves that go past your wrist and jackets that go below your butt also need to go.
Avoid contrasting colours
Try to wear shades of the same colour because when you wear contrasting tops and bottoms, they draw separate attention making your height apparent, but a monotone colour scheme draws attention to the whole. The goal is to avoid segmenting.
Shoe Shopping
Brands like ours make boots and shoes with hidden heels giving you that extra inch of confidence. You can also indulge in a pair of black heeled boots that are in vogue for men, it’s not too long but turns heads and improves posture. Maintain a low contrast with regards to the colour of the footwear too.
Pick fine prints and patterns
Going for bigger and bolder prints on your clothes can make you look smaller against them, going for thin stripes or small prints helps you avoid that while still allowing you to have fun with the colour and style.
Accessories
They’re not given enough credit for the power they wield over a look. Hats and scarves are great options for short men as they draw attention to the face, suspenders create a desirable vertical illusion but going beltless is best since they tend to segment the outfit.
While these should definitely help, the best way to go about it is to own your height and carry yourself with confidence.
